Unbelievable...
I seriously thought that this was a joke. Apparently not.
First it was the Nobel Peace Prize nominations. What the hell??? Bono advocates forgiving all third world debt. That's it. Very "Kumbaya", eh? There is nothing more complex - just "let's all forget about it and the world will be wonderful." THIS is worthy of a Nobel Peace Prize? This should be compared to the work of past winners such as Past Mother Teresa and Nelson Mandela?
Now, this very strange announcement that he is in the running to take over the World Bank. What qualification does he possibly have? He believes that debt should not be repaid! Wow - great qualification for a banker! Does the World Bank do mortgages?
Liberals seem to be completely infatuated with celebrity. Being able to sing (although this is questionable in Bono's case), act, or direct somehow makes your opinion more valuable in their eyes. This completely backfired on them during the campaign when they trotted out celebs to help them stump through the Midwest. We aren't stupid. A celebrity's opinion doesn't carry any extra weight. In fact, they have to go above and beyond just to prove that there IS a brain behind all the glitz.
Does Bono believe his rhetoric? I'm sure he does. Has he contributed to worthy causes? He absolutely has, both in time and money. Does this make him qualified to lead the World Bank? No.
